I know that I keep bringing up the issue of wearing masks. That is because it is important. It is very tragic that we have a deadly virus in our country that is killing so many people. However there is a way to slow it down and that is if everyone wore a mask. What confounds me is how wearing a mask has become such a divisive issue when doing so saves lives.
Last week one of our team members tested positive for COVID-19. The person did not pick up the virus in our store, because they had been off the week before, and came to work before they knew that they had it. The day after working, the person wasn’t feeling well, went to get tested, and tested positive.
Our team member did not mean to bring the virus into the store and wasn’t aware that they were ill. They also didn’t wear their mask, as they should have, when working at the store. Now, every person that they came into contact with – fellow team members and customers – may have been infected with a deadly contagious disease. All by accident because someone didn’t know that they were contagious and didn’t take the proper precautions. This is why the number of cases is rising across the country.
The rules that we have put in place are to protect you, your families, and our customers. We have come to realize that not everybody is following those rules. Therefore, we are issuing a company policy that any store team member not wearing the PPE that we have mandated (mask, gloves, and aprons) will be written up on the first violation, suspended without pay for three days on the second violation, and may be terminated if there is a third violation. We are serious and we want you to be as well.
Just to be clear, the StrasGlobal PPE mandate for our team members does not depend on what the Mayor, Governor, or President says. It is a decision that we make in order to keep you safe. We will follow CDC medical guidelines and also take into account the daily number of COVID cases. However, at the end of the day, we will make the decision based upon what we think is best.
